Agnostic, Dyslexic Insomniac

I certainly don’t believe in “God” (why would I?) but sometimes I do find myself in the right place at the right time for the benefit of others.

Just last night I witnessed a gentleman many years my junior arguing with his girlfriend on the phone. He was drunk and aggressive in his tone. The forth time he phoned his partner, he gave her an unltimatum: to meet him or it was over. I felt moved to intervene as I’ve been in that situation myself (both giving and receiving ends). I calmly explained that his girlfriend was likely to call his bluff, given his tone and she was hardly likely to even want to speak to him given his aggression. I advised he phone her in a civil manner, apologise, explain that he was drunk, sleep on it and ask if he could see her in the morning. This he did, she accepted his apology and agreed to meet. The gentleman thanked me and my work here was done.

He did explain that he had learning difficulties and that he’s dyslexic and I lay awake for some time contemplating what the outcome might be. And I was reminded of the agnostic, dyslexic insomniac, who lies awake at night wondering if there’s a dog.
